Are you and your baby having a hard time sleeping through the night?
Most young babies have arm and leg twitches while they sleep and often will unintentionally jolt themselves awake with an unconscious twitch. One study even showed that most babies will accidentally wake themselves up within 20 minutes of falling asleep.
Luckily, there is a fast fix available to help improve your baby's (and your) sleep.
Swaddling helps your baby develop in a number of important ways: it lays a solid foundation for soothing, can help to improve neuromuscular development, reminds the baby of the security of the womb, and like mentioned above, will also help prevent them from waking themselves up during the night.
In the same study, referenced above, a swaddled baby could sleep more than an hour before waking up.
That's a stark change from the 20 minutes of sleep the unswaddled baby will get.
Just remember that swaddling is a skill.
You want your swaddle to 1) be tight enough to keep your baby warm, and 2) secure enough to keep your baby from breaking loose during the night. But if the swaddle is wrapped too tightly, you can actually restrict your baby's breathing and hurt their soft bones.
